About the LEQ
- 🕰️ Recommended Time: 40 minutes
- You get to pick from three prompts from three time periods:
- 1200–1750, 1450–1900, or 1750–2001
How to Write an LEQ
- Decode the prompt: put the prompt in your own words
⏰ 1-2 min
- All of the prompts can be answered with one of these three formats:
- Change vs. continuation
- Causes and effects
- Comparisons vs. contrasts
- Brainstorm any and all TPE
⏰ 3-5 min
- “Throwup” anything you can remember on your scratch paper
- You need 1 specific piece evidence for each body paragraph
- Create thesis statement and outline
⏰ 5-8 min
- Must argue something:
- Were there more changes or continuations
- What were the main causes and effects
- Were there more similarities or differences
- Write your essay!
⏰ 25-31 min
- Stick to 4 paragraph format: 1 intro, 3 body paragraphs (no conclusion)
- Make sure there is 1 TPE per body paragraph
- Don’t waste time on proofreading or grammar
