About the LEQ

  • 🕰️ Recommended Time: 40 minutes
  • You get to pick from three prompts from three time periods:
    • 1200–1750, 1450–1900, or 1750–2001

How to Write an LEQ

  1. Decode the prompt: put the prompt in your own words ⏰ 1-2 min
      • All of the prompts can be answered with one of these three formats:
        • Change vs. continuation
        • Causes and effects
        • Comparisons vs. contrasts
        •  
  1. Brainstorm any and all TPE ⏰ 3-5 min
      • “Throwup” anything you can remember on your scratch paper
      • You need 1 specific piece evidence for each body paragraph
       
  1. Create thesis statement and outline ⏰ 5-8 min
      • Must argue something:
        • Were there more changes or continuations
        • What were the main causes and effects
        • Were there more similarities or differences
  1. Write your essay! ⏰ 25-31 min
      • Stick to 4 paragraph format: 1 intro, 3 body paragraphs (no conclusion)
      • Make sure there is 1 TPE per body paragraph
      • Don’t waste time on proofreading or grammar
